Youth citizenship – making a difference for you and your community! The government's new 'Join' initiative provides you with all the information you need about getting involved with politics, volunteering, securing funding for community projects and how to have an influence on big issues. www.unicef.org/voy/explore/explore.php is divided into 3 sections - the first, called 'Explore', aims to inform young people about child rights, education and exploitation. An interactive game allows pupils to make decisions about relationships and situations and see the predicted results of their actions. The 'Speak Out' section encourages debate through chat rooms. The 'Take Action' section provides information about how students can do exactly that, encouraging them to identify causes that matter to them and advising them on how they can help. The site is available in English, French and Spanish.

The Children's Legal Centre is a unique, independent national charity concerned with law and policy affecting children and young people. Crimebeat is the High Sheriffs' initiative aimed at encouraging young people to develop crime prevention and community safety initiatives, as well as becoming valued and respected members of their community. www.crimestoppers-uk.org is a UK charity that helps to identify, prevent, solve and reduce crime. Anyone with details of criminal activity can call anonymously, without fear of identification. Tel: 0800 555111.

www.devon-cornwall.police.uk are here to deal with any incidents when someone has broken the law. Tel: 999 if life is threatened, if people are injured, if offenders are nearby or if immediate action is required. Tel: 08452 777444 for general purposes such as reporting a crime where immediate action isn't required, or for information and advice.

www.intercomtrust.org.uk is a lesbian gay bisexual and trans community resource in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset, providing help against homophobic and transphobic prejudice, crime and discrimination (including bullying, harassment, abuse, attacks, and threatening behaviour), helping to develop the LGB/T communities, providing professional training and consultancy, and working in partnership with local government, the police, health, etc.

www.samaritans.org.uk is available 24 hours a day to provide confidential emotional support for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide.

www.youth2youth.co.uk is a unique helpline service run by young people for young people. The helpline staff are all young people themselves who have been specifically trained to help.

www.teenagehealthfreak.org aims to provide accurate and reliable health information to teenagers in a contemporary, entertaining and informative way. Dr Ann McPherson and Aiden McFarlane, writers of the original Diary of a Teenage Health Freak series, have created this site to address issues such as bullying and sexually transmitted diseases.

General Youth Information

www.jonnylonglife.com provides information on issues relevant to teens including sex, relationships and drugs. There are various opportunities for young people to contribute to the site.

www.thesite.org is designed specifically for young people. It provides information and facts about important decisions they have to make about sex, relationships, careers, money, health, drugs, rights and housing. There is also an 'ask a question' section where people over 16 can ask for information via e-mail and will be answered by one of the sites advisors.

www.youthinformation.com is a youth-facing website offering an information toolkit for young people, provided by the National Youth Agency.

Drugs

was launched in May 2003 and since then there have been over 4 million visits to its drug information website and 700,000 calls to its helpline – 0800 776600. The campaign targets 11-21 year olds, and the parents of 11-18 year olds, but the service is for everyone and FRANK can be used and adapted locally for your own drug campaign needs. A range of resources have been produced to help you use and promote FRANK.
